Bespoke floral design for york wedding.

JESS & MICHAEL

When a couple come to me looking for wildness and art and emotion, you can guarantee I’ll be grinning from ear to ear. Jess and Michael wanted to feel surrounded by flowers throughout their wedding, and were looking for an Italian-inspired feel to contrast with the industrial setting of their venue. Challenge accepted!

Using a background palette of varied greens and whites, with terracotta focal flowers (my beloved garden roses), I wanted to make sure I was considering height and fragrance here. The ceremony backdrop curved around and out towards the guests, I wanted Jess and Michael to feel like they were being embraced by fragrant flowers in a hug as they said their vows.

As things moved from the ceremony to the reception, it was important to me that the floral presence was impactful, so I created large-scale hanging chandeliers in gorgeous greenery, to contrast with a range of smaller arrangements along the long tables. This kept the guests’ eyes interested, and provided that immersive feeling of being surrounded by beautifully natural flowers.

Allowing nature to feel very present in what is otherwise an extremely modern space was a beautiful idea, and the contrast felt intentional and luxurious. I loved flowering this wedding!

from the Bride & Groom:

“Choosing flowers was the part of wedding planning I was most looking forward to. From the first call with Nicola, she captured our vision, shared our enthusiasm and brought her own flair. She created a whimsical wild meadow installation as a ceremony backdrop, as well as stunning table flowers and foliage light fittings for the reception venue. I had two bridesmaids and four “mates of honour.” I wanted something different to bouquets so each was styled with a different real flower accessory (headbands, bracelets and hair flowers), conceived and created by Nicola.

Nicola also sorted extra ribbon so we could make posies for guests when they were leaving. We put flower presses in the children’s party bags so everyone could enjoy the blooms.

The flowers were amazing and we had endless compliments but the thing that shone through most when working with Nicola was her unrelenting passion for her craft, which made the day very special.”
