K & T

This was a late spring wedding that felt incredibly special. Flowers were used as storytelling centrepieces of the whole event, which lasted over several days. Lovely bride K wanted the floral installations at Thicket Priory to act as signposts, guiding their guests gently through each of the celebration spaces.

The staircase was a real focal point, as it was used in place of a traditional ceremony. Instead, the couple had a series of surprise reveals – first to each other (which is just the most gorgeous and emotional moment, I’d love to see more ‘first looks’ like this at weddings in the UK), then with close family and friends, and finally with all the guests.

So, the staircase florals had a big job to do! Using a palette of white, soft green and pale rust, I created an elaborate staircase runner that overtook the high windowsills, and wound its way down between the bannisters. We wanted to balance contemporary style with a magical timelessness, and the result was both sophisticated and wild.

My team and I were on site every day refreshing the staircase flowers and making other, new installations throughout the venue, to keep the element of surprise for guests as much as possible. Think elaborate sweetheart tables, wild aisles leading up the paths outside, chill out zones, sculptural urns and abundant mantelpiece arrangements. On the final day, we bunched up so many large bunches of flowers! All the guests and venue staff were gifted bouquets, we donated some to the nuns on site and also donated to a local hospice.

There was so much heart in this beautiful wedding, and it was a wonderfully creative challenge for me using the floral installations to keep the spaces looking renewed and different across the course of the weekend. A joy to be a part of.

from the couple:

We used Nicola for our wedding and it was truly spectacular. The flowers lasted ages, they were still fresh two weeks after the big day! Very impressive work and we would highly recommend her.
