I'm Nicola, Luxury Wedding Florist based in York

Welcome to my world ... it’s a small but a beautiful one, filled with greenery, petals and the people I love. My floral design journey with Dittany Entwined was started after I styled the flowers at my own wedding. The sort of calm creativity I found in working with stems and blooms was a revelation, and I wanted more!

At school I was happiest in the art room, and I loved exploring different approaches to art and design, making sculptures and incorporating texture and dried flowers into my work. Life after A levels took me down a different road, and instead of pursuing my artistic endeavours I followed my studies in biology into a career in physiotherapy.

Designing bespoke wedding flowers for the last 6 years has reconnected me with my creative spirit and then some! Being able to lose myself in the calming design process while knowing that the artistic floral installations I’m making have the sole purpose of bringing joy to others is very special.

That creative journey has now evolved even further with the addition of our floral preservation service, allowing me to return to mixed media art in a way that feels both meaningful and beautifully full circle.

My floristry is also rooted in the skills I’ve honed over the years as a physiotherapist, not only in terms of the organisation, planning, and ability to think on my feet required. It goes deeper than that: there’s a definite emotional resonance for me each time I’m conditioning flowers and gently coaxing their blossoms, helping them to become the best, strongest, most beautiful versions of themselves.

Never done learning Floristry is an explosion of creativity, yes, but it also involves precision, structure, strength and a huge amount of specialist knowledge. Since starting Dittany Entwined, I’ve made it my mission to learn from internationally renowned florists and flower experts, to make sure that my craft and technical skills keep up with the flood of ideas in my head!

I've had the pleasure of experiencing one on one mentoring, and specialist wedding floristry courses from the best in the business, for which I’m incredibly grateful. Every wedding, event or workshop I flower teaches me something new, and I know I’ll keep learning forever.

I can’t wait to get to know you, and to discover what creative challenges you’ll set me with your ideas and floral dreams. To start chatting about what’s possible and how we can work together, head to my contact page and send me a hello.

Love, Nicola x

What’s In a Name?

Dittany

Dittany really speaks to me. It’s an unusual little plant, which packs a punch in terms of both its herbal scent and velvety texture. Known for its supposed healing properties, it also traditionally represents love and dedication, and feels like a perfectly whimsical fit for my business.

Entwined

Entwined represents a beautiful willow tree in my nana’s garden, that as a child I loved playing under. In summer it cast the most enchanting dappled green shadows, and it felt like you were entering another world. Nana was a keen gardener and a real inspiration to me. The beautiful garden and was her pride and joy and the willow was one of its crown jewels.
